Important Notes
All Wiehltalbahn and railway museum staff members work unsalaried in their spare time. So please handle our vehicles and other railway property well – we will thank you.
Attention - Soot!
Our steam locomotives get their power from the elements fire and water. So we unfortunately cannot assume liability for spots on your clothing. Especially with widely opened windows and on the platform one has to take the possibility into account to get some "soot medals".
The Windows
in the passenger carriages can be opened without exertion, if you hold the window at the handle and pull it slightly towards you with the leather belt. This deblocks the window slot and the window can slide down. To close the window, please don't pull the leather belt, but the handle!
The Liftable Protecting Grids
at the platforms of the carriages are safeguarded to avoid sudden fall down. To close them please lift the handle respectively pull the bolt out. The stay on the open platform is generally on your own risk and is only allowed with closed protecting grids.
In Case Of Stops On The Open Track
please don't stepp off unauthorised and take spezial care for your children!
Leaning Out
Please pay attention that noone leans out of the running train, as some trees have their branches growing faster than we can cut hem back.
Smoking
Out of respect for other passengers and according to the current regulations smoking is generally not permitted in our trains.
Possible Limitation Due To The Risk Of Forest Fires
The Wiehltalbahn advises all its passengers that in case of high risk of forest fires (warning level 4 according to German Meteorological Service "DWD") and extremly high risk of forest fires (warning level 5 according to German Meteorological Service "DWD") operational limitations can happen (e.g. legal prohibition of the operation of coal fired steam locomotives). For this please also note our remarks on embankment and forest fires.
Replacement Of Announced Vehicles
We use our best endeavours to employ the announced vehicles. Should a steam locomotive fail we go to great lengths for an replacement with a Diesel engine.
