State of the works in November 2011

In the breaking dawn of 29th.October 2011 the platelayer’s trolley of the Wiehltalbahn's bridge construction crew went from the Denklingen bridge across to the storage container for the last time. It was heavily loaded with trowels and masonry tools and the young driver looks a bit tired. And he is right! We worked hard and achieved a lot.

The construction stages of "Preparing  the bridge for water sealing" and “Sealing" have been completed.

After the application of 70,000 litres (15,400 gallons) of water, 15,000 kg (14.75 tons) of ready-mixed cement and screed, as well as of 700 kg (14 cwt) of high-quality sealing material, combined with a lot of manpower the time has come: The concrete span of the Denklingen bridge has a fresh “tanking” and additionally is protected against rising and penetrating water. Two new drainage core holes in the bridge allow water to drain off as quickly as possible.

All surfaces have been painted three times with sealing compund. In our photo gallery you can see what this looks like.

What will happen next?

Not much in Denklingen. Some minor remaining tasks will be taken care of as the weather permits. The sealing compound needs some weeks with (we hope) sufficiently high temperatures for hardening. During this time all necessary protection and drainage mattting will be ordered and fitted, so that the company "Hering-Bau" can start to backfill the bridge around  mid-November. As far as possible we will assist with these works - e.g. by taking care that the protective matting doesn't get out of place.
