'Society Of German Transportation Companies (VDV)' Advocates A Speedy Reactivation Of The Wiehl Valley Railway Line

After an enforced break due to the coronavirus, a second catalogue of suggestions for the reactivation of German railway lines was published by the Society Of German Transportation Companies (VDV). In this catalogue, the Wiehl Valley Railway is ranked among the top three of all examined lines.

Station Nameboard Of 'Kömpel Halt' Stolen

'Kömpel' Halt is counted among the less familiar railway stations in the 'Upper Berg County’ (Oberberg). It is part of the branch line of the Wiehl valley railway that leads from Waldbröl-Hermesdorf to Morsbach through the rural Zielenbach valley and is also known as the  Wisser Valley Railway (Wissertalbahn). Currently only maintenance trains of the Wiehl valley railway run on this line.

Looking Back On a Positive Anniversary Year

On the occasion of this year's annual general meeting of the 'Society For The Preservation Of The Wiehl Valley Railway', which traditionally took place just before Christmas at the 'Workers' Welfare Association’ (AWO) in Waldbröl, chairman Gerhard Mansel could look back on a successful anniversary year of the community organisation

Due to the current corona virus situation and furthermore the order of the town of Gummersbach, the "Bergischer Löwe" will not run in the foreseeable future.

We are very sad having to postpone the start of our season.

According to the website of the Dieringhausen Railway Museum, the steam train rides of the Bergischer Löwen had to be cancelled up to and including 07/05/2020 due to corona.Apparently the first steam train journeys of the Bergischer Löwen will take place on July 26th, 2020 – see Homepage of the Dieringhausen Railway Museum

25th Anniversary Of The 'Society For The Preservation Of The Wiehl Valley Railway'

On October 10th, 2019, it was 25 years to the day that committed citizens from the 'Upper Berg County’ (Oberberg) gathered and founded the 'Society For The Preservation Of The Wiehl Valley Railway’ (Förderkreis zur Rettung der Wiehltalbahn) as a charitable organisation.
